Luis Vélez Pretelt

Luis Vélez is a Governance Consultant at the World Bank’s Governance Global Practice. For the last four years, Luis has worked on the Open Contracting Program assisting governments to implement policies and practices of transparency and participation in public contracting. As part of this work, Luis has supported open contracting interventions in various countries across different regions including Argentina, Colombia, Indonesia and the Philippines. Luis is also part of the World Bank team assisting the government of Georgia through a project for "Improving Transparency and Efficiency in Public Procurement", with a strong focus on data transparency.
Since joining the World Bank in 2012, Luis has worked on several initiatives aimed to facilitate an open and collaborative process between governments and citizens. Luis' prior professional experience includes working at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of his native Colombia, and at the Department of International Affairs of the Organization of American States. Luis graduated in International Relations from Universidad del Rosario in Bogotá, Colombia and he holds a Master in International Development from The American University.
