I have been dedicated to issues related to local governance and the role of local governments in international development since 1997 when I entered the UN System as information manager at the International Labour Organisation – ILO, providing expertise on local economic development for local governments in Latin America. In 2003 I was detached by the ILO to the Italian Ministry for Foreign Affairs, contributing to build tools for economic internationalisation within the Italian regional governments in building up tools for. In 2006, moved to UN-HABITAT, the UN Programme for Human Settlements, where I was Head of the Spanish Office for Best Practices and Local Leadership until 2010, working mainly on decentralised cooperation and support to decentralisation strategies. I worked at the Cabinet of the Executive Director of UN-Habitat until 2013 when I finally could move back to work in the field of local governance. I actually coordinate the work of the Local Government and Decentralization Unit at UN-Habitat headquarters in Nairobi, promoting the work of the organisation in the fields of urban governance, transparency, sustainability and innovation in public administration. Born in Valladolid (Spain) in 1974, graduated on Political Sciences at the University of Granada with complementary studies on EU Law and International Relations at the Robert Schuman University in Strasbourg (France). I also have a MSc on Public Service Management by the University of Birmingham (UK). Fluent in Spanish, English, Italian and French, with some knowledge of Arabic and Portuguese.
